Living in Strasbourg

Vivre à Strasbourg
As the intellectual, artistic and economic capital of Alsace, Strasbourg offers all the advantages of a large city, but at a manageable size. The city can boast an extraordinary array of architecture, excellent museums and a cycle and pedestrian -friendly atmosphere that make it a genuinely enjoyable place to live in, with a superb quality of life. Strasbourg is also one of the rare cities in the world whose city centre has been classified as a UNESCO world heritage site.

Strasbourg, student capital of eastern France

Strasbourg is the largest student city in the east of France, with some 48,000 students. The city has proved highly attractive with foreign students, who make up some 20% of the total university student body and Strasbourg has the highest number of foreign students of all the towns and cities in France, just behind Paris.

Part of the explanation for this popularity comes from the city's geographic location as a border city in the heart of Europe.

Strasbourg, cultural capital

Strasbourg has a thriving cultural and festival life that is second only to Paris. The city boasts an impressive number of exhibitions, concerts, festivals, theatres, libraries, premières, contemporary music, music venues, cabarets and bars. There really is something here for everyone.

Strasbourg, European capital

Strasbourg is the seat of a number of European institutions and organisations, such as the European Parliament, the Council of Europe, the European Commission and Court of Human Rights. It also houses the headquarters of the Arte Franco-German cultural TV channel, the permanent secretariat of the International Human Frontier Science Program Organization, the European Science Foundation and the Alfred Kastler national foundation.

Strasbourg, capital of Alsace

Strasbourg is also the capital of Alsace, the region with the second highest GIP per inhabitant in France and the top-ranked region for exports per inhabitant (by value). Alsace encompasses the Bas-Rhin and Haut-Rhin departments and shares borders with Germany and Switzerland. With 7 countries within a 500-mile reach, it can truly be said that Strasbourg is in the heart of Europe.
